Spring has sprung here at the Geekhouse shop, lucky for us our good friend Taryne gave us these plants this winter, to help with cabin fever. Now that it’s warm out we’ve kicked ourselves into gear to get more bikes out the door, so that you fine patient folk can enjoy your bikes in actuality and not just in your imagination.

In-between cutting tubes, planning top secret club kits, and jet setting, we’ve had plenty of time to NOT get distracted. I mean, come one, look how many tools we use.

Let’s take a serious look at what we do around the shop. Bryan (Royal H Cycles) and Brad are pros when it comes to getting work done. Such serious men, doing such serious work.

Just look at how kind Bryan is “helping Brad out with something in his pocket”… or whatever is happening here.

Not even loud dance music and my singing can stop Brad from getting his work done. Look at him put that decal on like there’s not a camera next to his face.

On a more serious note, we’ve finally finished John Watson’s newest Geekhouse, a Woodville touring bike, so that he can do some more badass rides around whatever exciting country he’s going to next. We’re sending it off now to Death Spray Custom for a paint job next!

In the end the secret to our success is candy. A lot of candy, hidden around the shop by our office manager. Because you can’t spell Geekhouse, without chocolate…

We’ve been busy dodging snowflakes, recovering from our trip to Denver, and building a ton of new frames – which sadly doesn’t leave a lot of room for blogging! That’s why we’re happy to share with you today, here, now, something from another corner of the universe entirely.

Greggles of ‘used to work here’ and ‘now works at Cuppow‘ fame spent last summer scribbling in a notebook and what came out the other end made us laugh, cry (literally), and question whether we are just bicycle frame builders… or life-altering Fiddler on the Roof-style matchmakers.

If you don’t know, Greg was in a pretty tough accident shortly after leaving Geekhouse wherein his bicep was caught on an open door, lacerated open, and ended up looking like Admiral Ackbar for a few weeks. He was off the bike for a while and it was quite a shot to our otherwise intrepid Woodville riding friend.

The good news: he transformed all of that angst, frustration, and inability to grow a ‘depression beard’ into a story published in the most recent Embrocation Cycling Journal. It’s classic Greggles and has been called by some as the greatest pseudo-homo-erotic Objektophilie man-bicycle love story of Winter 2012. To top it all of, it was shot by the fearless Heather McGrath who dared go where no photog. had gone before: Greg’s disgusting bedroom. And so we’re proud to share with you- exclusive out takes!

For the whole story you’ll need to check out the magazine yourself. You can purchase here or drop in to Ride Studio Cafe, Golden Saddle Cyclery in LA, or any other place that serves a combination of alcohol and caffeine to people who occupy travel lanes.

After three cyclocross seasons of mud, blood, and maybe more than a few crashes, Cait’s first Mudville (and now “b bike”) was in need of a paint update from the good old team blue and pink. She handed her frame and fork over to us, and said, “Paint it however you want, I trust you guys.” Her first mistake.

In addition to being our factory team’s elite rider, she’s also Geekhouse’s office manager, which made it a little tricky to try and surprise her with what Brad, Jordan Low, and I had planned. For weeks, she’d snoop around the shop, wondering what was taking so long. We just told her we were powdering it black. And then asked her to go do something else.

She even FOUND our “secret” paint sample, posted it on Instagram and had no idea what was going to happen. Okay, so, maybe we’re bad at hiding things from her, but despite our best efforts at surprise-sabotage, Cait was totally shocked.

To make this look happen, Brad powder coated the whole frame a rose color, and then handed off the frame and Enve fork to Jordan Low to paint the fade and splatter.

Best b bike ever? We think so.

Well guys, NAHBS is finally here, our booth made it across country, and is set up and ready to go! The show officially starts in a couple hours, and I honestly can’t wait!

And as much as I’d like to take all the credit for these bikes…I can’t. Before the show starts, I just wanted to thank a bunch of people for all their help to get these bikes going this year. First up the Geekhouse team itself, Bradford Smith slaved away on these bikes for us – I couldn’t do it without you, man! No, I literally can’t do it without you! Also special thanks to Katty Walsh and Cait Dooley for all their help organizing the show, keeping all office work flowing, keeping my ADHD on track, and of course, supplying us with yummy cookies! More thanks below the bikes…

Our 2013 Mudville Single Speed, Disc, Belt-Drive is first up (what a mouth full!), and most likely our show stopper! I owe a huge debt to Adria Klora for designing a beautiful new decal set for our 2013 product line, included on this bike. Adria is a talented designer, who loves my frantic 11pm phone calls!

Also, thank you to Jordan Low for his beautiful paint job on our Mudville CX! Jordan really set the bar high for us in 2013, and I can’t wait for more of this to come Fall 2013. Check out more of his work on flickr.

Big shout out to the man himself, Justin Spinelli from Luxe Wheel Works, on the exquisite wheels on the Mudville: carbon Corima rims to pink single speed disc King hubs. Justin, you really came through on this man, thank you SO much!

We’ve re-vamped and come up with this additional model for our 2013 line. The Brentwood is now our go-to City/Porter bike. Also, featuring for the first time a Geekhouse custom front Rack, and Stem.

Of course thanks to my favorite engineer/designer extraordinaire Aaron Panone. Who has re-imagined our Manifest chain guard, beautiful and sleek, sir!

At the last minute we had a huge hand from Tom Estrada of Superb and the Geekhouse CX team. Tom totally came through on polishing the handlebar and chainguard on the Brentwood, as well as helping me building the shipping crate. You should have seen the size of the blister on his thumb. You rock, man!

Finally, we have re-imagined the Hopedale model for 2013. Rather than a pure racing road frame, we’re transforming it to a more all-around Dirt Road/Rando bicycle. This bike was Brad’s baby, creating a beautiful rack and stem all on his own. As well as insisting we could fit 30c tires on standard Force caliper brakes. Bravo man, this bike came out SO nice, I’m proud of you bro!

Heather Mcgrath came through on the last second before packing the bikes on these beautiful photos of the bicycles. Heather is a talented photographer who can be seen in Bicycle Magazine and Embrocation Cycling Journal.

Last big shout out is the John Watson, who has featured all of Heather photos on a gallery up on ProllyisnotProbably.com follow that link, or this one here to check out all the detailed shots of the 2013 Geekhouse NAHBS bikes. Thanks guys, see you at the show!!!

Last week we shipped out three Wormtown frames – two team Project Sconey frames, and one for our customer, Heidi. These are one of the last few frames we finished up before heading into NAHBS at fult tilt.

Heidi had a vision for what she wanted her frame to look like from the start. A cool gray first coat mixed with a purple sparkle second coat made for a really awesome metallic gray effect.

Heidi’s team has pink as one of its main colors, so we added decals that would keep her looking pro.

Finishing up with Paragon low mount drop outs, mixed with OX Platinum tubing, this is a light, crisp ride.
