The Boston Cyclists Union has been busy petitioning and getting the word out about a very exciting event for anyone who rides a bicycle in Boston. The event, a meeting to assess public interest in bike lanes on Massachusetts Avenue, is step number one in an effort to reshape the way ride on Mass Ave. Show your support by attending the meeting:
Thursday, April 14 · 7:00pm - 9:00pm - at the Boston Public Library, Central Branch.
Massachusetts Avenue, like the majority of roads in Boston, needs help. But, much more so than others because it is one of the most heavily trafficked roads in the city. It’s an artery to Cambridge & Dorchester, a commercial cornerstone, home to Berklee College of Music and gateway to Northeastern University, The Otherside Cafe, The Boston Symphony, Back Bay Bicycles and about a zillion more places of interest. According to the BCU “At peak periods, cyclists account for 6-14% of all vehicle traffic.” That’s big. Unfortunately, due to compromised conditions, “Mass Ave also has the highest number of crashes for cyclists in the City.”
The potential lanes in question will connect the Harvard Bridge and Huntington Ave. Construction on a section of road like this doesn’t take place often and this one has been in the works for quite some time. We don’t want to miss the opportunity to make the street safer and to avoid accidents so don’t miss this opportunity to come voice your support!
One more time: Thursday, April 14 · 7:00pm - 9:00pm - at the Boston Public Library, Central Branch. Don’t forget to show your support of the Boston Cyclists Union on Facebook and let people know you’re ‘Attending’ the hearing on the Facebook Event Page.
