The Velo Orange Milan Handlebar is unofficially the official handlebar of Geekhouse Bikes.
It’s almost funny that drop bars are the de facto handlebars on bicycles in the States. With the immense popularity of road cycling in a post-Lance Armstrong world, drops are it. Go into a bike shop and a majority percentage of bikes will have some variation of ergo, track, classic, or randonneur drop bars. But for those of us who aren’t racing, climbing, or generally hustling- the drop bar often times doesn’t make sense. What about when you just want to cruise?
Enter the Milan bar. Velo Orange says, “We call this the Milan bar because it’s a great bar for converting old Italian racing frames with a short top tube. Actually it’s great for converting any frame with a short top tube into a city bike. Folks who like a more aggressive position on a city bike will like it too.”
Now I’ve never been to Milan…
In fact, I initially thought that the bars were named after my favorite Peppridge Farm cookie and didn’t really think twice about it.
But then I rode a pair and I stopped caring how they were named- If you’re going for a flat bar road bike (so hot for 2011), classing up a commuter, or simply want a handlebar that just feels like Summer; the VO Milan Bar is right up your alley.
