Ben O’s Woodville

Just finished up Ben’s Woodville! This sea foam-starlet is headed on a coast to coast tour this Summer, leaving from Boston and hauling Ben (self-supported) all the way to Portland, OR. Not only is he riding there, but he’s moving there! Sounds like a fun way to spice up an otherwise tedious migration.

We opted for a Shimano 105 group, the same that brought Bianca Cross-Country for Autism, and a similar collection of bits and bobs from VO, Paul Components, Thomson, and other usual suspects. This was our first complete using the Velocity Synergys, a great touring wheelset that keeps the build light and snappy. We wrapped those jammers in a pair of Soma New Xpress tires; the reddish-earth tone accents like the tires, leather saddle, bar tape, and even the brake pads all play off of this springtime sparkle-coat creating a bike that is just a delight to look at.

We’re compiling a standardized long-haul touring package based around a similar group of components. Between Polly’s S&S coupled beast and this dreamboat, I guess you could say we are into touring bikes these days. Something about the arrival of warmer weather just makes me want to ride out of town for a night of camping, ghost stories, Ramen, inadequate sleeping conditions, and rowdy strangers in wired-in RVs telling their children “That’s a hippie”. Mmm.. sounds nice.

About Greggles

I started working at Geekhouse in the Fall of 2009. I rode my Woodville coast to coast and missed Allston dearly for 2.5 months; when I returned I vowed I would never leave Marty's side again. My other interests include papier-mâché and Kupel's bagels.
