Sugarcoated

You may or may not know that we have an in-house powder coat op. called Sugarcoat. Bradford is the CEO, Chief Excellent Officer, of SC and takes care of, not only every Geekhouse Bike, but also whatever steel you want to throw his way. With limitless options from Columbia Coatings, Prismatic, and more; we can do everything from matching that shade of lip-gloss pink you love so much to just plain old surprising you (our favorite). His eye for detail, creative color choices, and eagle-eye finish gloriously combine into a final product that can’t be beat. Bradford quite literally lives and breathes all things powder coat, that’s why we make him wear a mask.

Every Geekhouse comes with a custom Sugarcoat or we can powder coat everything from Astro-Daimler to Zeus. Do to increased demand, we’ll be bumping up prices slightly this year, so that we can offer more options, faster turnaround, and the same precision finish you’ve come to know and love.

Single Color Frame & Fork $225
Second Coat (incl. sparkle, matte, and clear coats) $75
Different Color Fork $75
Diss-assemble & Re-assemble (Geared) $100
Diss-assemble & Re-assemble (Single Speed) $50
New Cables & Housing $25
Tap, Ream, Face BB & HT Included

Additionally, with the help of good friend Dave at LA Brakeless we now have new ‘Sugarcoated’ stickers! If you’ve gotten a bike powdered by us in the past and you’re tired of people asking where you got it done and long to be able to just point at a cutesy sticker than today is your day.

Geekhouse Likes: Nathan Barnatt

Let’s talk. We can go on and on and on about bikes ’til the cows come home. But there’s more to life than beautiful bicycles. Things like dancing, and YouTube. So for the inaugural post in my new category we would like to introduce you to shop favorite Nathan Barnatt. His work is a major inspiration in our lives and with every new video we love him more. See for yourself:

Nathan is a long-time friend of Bradford’s and he’s from Massachusetts! He’s in LA these days killing it on the comedy circuit (did you notice this video got 50,000 views in two days?) and we eagerly await every new clip of his. I’m personally partial to Keith Apicary, his video game obsessed character, who is portrayed as “the only person on Earth who actually liked Virtual Boy”.

He’s got a website: www.nathanbarnatt.com, a YouTube Channel, Twitter, Facebook, and he always seems to pop up where you least expect him.. ZipCar ads, Heather’s photography, not to mention he’s the self-proclaimed spokesperson for candy. For your karate instruction, your humor, your dance moves, and your inspiring efforts to make the world a little less serious. We salute you.

Levi Strauss & Co.

We recently sent Marty’s NAHBS Woodville over to Levi’s for some camera time with alongside their new cycling-inspired jeans aptly named the ‘Commuter’. Exciting stuff. They sent us over a little care package which is nice because I don’t know how to do laundry, and hopefully we’ll be able to review the Commuters as they hit the shelves sometime this Spring.

Brad didn’t get anything because pants are kind of like his kryptonite. I’m not sure if the Commuters are knickers or if the guy in the picture just rolled them up to show off some sweet man-calf but either way I’m having a hard time trying to sell Brad on denim of any kind.

We got in touch with our new best friends because we’ll be participating in the 2011 Oregon Manifest Constructor Design Challenge presented by Levi’s.

Check out the new OM site for a description of the event and list of builders and schools participating in the challenge. I can’t go 15 minutes without hearing about another new groundbreaking idea or conceptual paradigm being blown wide open for the bike we’ll be building; even though it’s still half a year away I can already tell that what Marty and Brad are planning is going to be quite a creative treat.

It’s a very different kind of show and a great opportunity; one we’re really looking forward to participating in. We’ll be chronicling the build here so check back for updates in the new Oregon Manifest Category. A special show deserves a special bike so we’re going to go all out; I can’t divulge too many details yet but from the chatter around the shop I’ll bet dollars to donuts that my boys will definitely be pulling out the big guns and maybe, just maybe, I can convince them to put a bird on it.
